Debate: Iceland's no: does the EU have a publicity problem?

Icelanders voted by a narrow majority against joining the European Union. On Saturday, 52.8 percent rejected the resumption of accession negotiations in a referendum. The social-democratic government was the one that initiated the vote, hoping that EU membership would offer the country greater protection against territorial claims, such as those made by Trump regarding Greenland. For the opponents, national sovereignty and control over fishing waters took priority.
