Two people died and two others were seriously injured on Monday night following a collision involving a heavy vehicle and two light cars on the IC8, in Ansião, in the district of Leiria. The accident occurred on the road linking Ansião to Pombal.
According to a source from the Sub-regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of the Leiria Region cited by the Lus news agency, the accident involved a heavy vehicle and two light cars. The fatalities were declared at the scene of the incident.
The Republican National Guard was present at the scene, which took charge of the occurrence, as well as the firefighters of Ansião, who assisted in rescue operations for the injured victims. Emergency medical resources were also deployed to provide assistance to the survivors.
Traffic on the IC8 was cut off for several hours following the accident, causing disruptions to traffic in the region. Authorities are investigating the causes that led to the collision between the three vehicles.
