Community leader Josiene Dias de Assunção Maia was shot and killed Saturday night in Curicica, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro. She was active in the communities of Campo do Quinze and Colônia, in Jacarepaguá, and was inside a car when she was executed. Forensic analysis confirmed that over 50 shots were fired at the vehicle.

The Civil Police have already identified that the victim had recently received death threats. Investigators are looking into whether the crime was carried out by individuals linked to a militia or a criminal gang operating in the area.

Two criminal groups are fighting over territory in the area, and the shootouts between the gangs caused widespread violence in the Southwest Zone. Due to the confrontations recorded on Saturday, 14 buses were hijacked and used as barricades at various points throughout the region.
