Gaby Mendes became the first samba queen of Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel who came from the passistas wing. She started dancing samba as a child at the green and white school's rehearsal hall, located in the neighborhood of Padre Miguel, in Rio de Janeiro.
Last Saturday, an old wish of Gaby's with the school came true when she took the throne as samba queen. The announcement of the passing of the baton happened during the event's semifinal. Previously, the position was held by Fabíola Andrade, wife of Rogério de Andrade.
Last carnival, Gaby Mendes was the muse of Mocidade and was already considered a favorite by the community to take the crown. She commented that turning a dream into reality and dreaming about Mocidade is something to be done with feet on the ground and dancing samba a lot.
