Stabilization works are underway on the slope located alongside National Road 256 (EN256), between kilometres 35 and 36, in Mourão. The intervention comes as a result of the damage caused by the severe storms that hit the country during the month of January, namely storm Kristin, which caused various damages and disruptions at different points across the national territory. The objective is to strengthen the safety of the road infrastructure and prevent the conditions of the slope from worsening, which suffered a partial collapse.
Traffic is restricted during the works, with circulation ensured in an alternating manner in both directions through traffic light signalling. Authorities are appealing to motorists to drive with caution and respect the existing signage at the location while the works are underway.
The intervention comes after the president of the Municipal Council of Mourão, João Fortes, had requested that Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) carry out works to solve the problem of the slope adjacent to EN256.
