An operation to combat deforestation in the Atlantic Forest mobilized state agencies, the Public Ministry, and city halls in 64 municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro during the month of August. The action, called Operation Atlantic Forest Standing, was carried out by the State Secretariat for Environment and Sustainability (Seas), by the State Institute of the Environment (Inea), by the Public Ministry, and by municipal city halls.
Throughout the operation, 168 alerts of possible vegetation suppression were addressed, with 314.01 hectares inspected in the state. The actions resulted in more than R$ 800 thousand in fines applied and 225 administrative measures adopted.
Of the 168 alerts inspected in the state, 33 were exclusively analyzed (the original text is incomplete).
The initiative is part of a national mobilization that involved the 17 states covered by the Atlantic Forest biome.
