oglobo1 September 2026 at 08:00

A week after the aggression between students at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) motivated by an alleged Nazi manifestation at the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences (IFCS), at Largo de São Francisco, in downtown Rio, the institute's directorate announced measures that are being adopted against episodes of conflict and intolerance. One of them will be the distribution to faculty of a guide on how to act in these situations.

The rector of UFRJ issued a statement about the case, stating that the university does not accept Nazism, anti-Semitism, or any form of discrimination, but also repudiated the violence. The declaration indicates the institutional position regarding the episode.

Student Diego Costa da Silva Araújo, 27, a History student, was the victim of the aggression. He was attacked by colleagues after being accused of making an apology for Nazism. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a t-shirt from the English band "Death in June," known for adopting symbols associated with the regime of Adolf Hitler, in addition to wearing a badge on his jacket that was covered, according to the partial description available in the article.
