The Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerj) votes this Tuesday, under urgency, two of the main projects of the fiscal rebalancing package sent by acting governor Ricardo Couto. The proposals create the Habitual Debtor Law and authorize the Attorney General's Office of the State (PGE-RJ) to enter into transaction agreements for tax and non-tax credits enrolled in active debt.
The measures are considered strategic by the government's economic team, with the objective of increasing revenue recovery, regularizing the situation of indebted taxpayers and strengthening state coffers.
Behind the scenes, members of the State Treasury Secretariat (Sefaz) admitted concern that the content of the projects could face resistance among the deputies, but expectations pointed toward the possibility of approval still this week.
