The European NexTCity project is developing a digital replica of Lisbon's Low Emission Zone. This technological platform will allow urban policies to be simulated before they are implemented in the actual city.
The digital twin will make it possible to anticipate the effects of policies on air quality, urban heat islands, and population health. Project managers will thus be able to test different scenarios and assess their impacts before making decisions.
This tool comes in the context of the need to implement effective climate measures in European cities, allowing risks and costs associated with policies that may prove inadequate to be reduced.
