Some daycare centers in Rio de Janeiro offer food without ultra-processed products, and for many parents this is an important factor when choosing an institution. According to experts, heavier meals can cause tiredness in children, make it difficult to concentrate, and harm learning. Nutritionist Thays Peres explains that an ideal diet during childhood should be varied, colorful, and based on "fresh" or minimally processed foods. In the school environment, this means prioritizing fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, beans, eggs, meat, milk and dairy products, as well as grains and tubers. Ultra-processed foods generally have higher amounts of sugar, sodium, and fats, as well as lower nutrient and fiber density, which can affect children's performance and well-being.
