PL president in Bahia hides bolsonarismo in campaign alongside ACM Neto and opens crisis in state directory

oglobo1 September 2026 at 07:30

The beginning of the electoral campaign in Bahia presented to voters a version of João Roma (PL), Senate candidate on the ticket of ACM Neto (União Brasil), far from the Bolsonaroist image that characterized him in 2022. The state president of PL abandoned the green and yellow used previously, when he supported former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), of whom he was a minister, and replaced the outfit with the blue colors that mark the carlista candidate's campaign.

Roma's posture has been displeasing PL aspirants to the Legislative Assembly and the Chamber of Deputies, who complain about the lack of funds and campaign material to promote the party's name in the presidential race, Flavinho Bolsonaro. This divergence between Roma's strategy and the expectations of other party candidates opened a crisis in the state directory of the PL in Bahia.

ACM Neto, who runs for governor of Bahia facing the PTB governor Jerónimo Rodrigues, rules out the possibility of publicly including Bolsonaroism in his campaign, opting for a more moderate image to win votes beyond the Bolsonaroist base.

Jair Renan Asks for Votes for Esperidião Amin and Carlos Bolsonaro, but Leaves Michelle's Ally in SC Out of the Campaign Flyer

The campaign material attributed to Jair Renan Bolsonaro (PL-SC) asks for votes for Carlos Bolsonaro and Esperidião Amin for Senate, but excludes federal deputy Caroline de Toni, Michelle Bolsonaro's ally on the same ticket. The flyer also supports Jair Renan for federal deputy, Flavinho for president, Jorginho Mello for governor, and Camilo Martins for state deputy. Toni's exclusion occurs amid tensions in the Bolsonaro coalition in Santa Catarina, as Amin was passed over by Jorginho earlier this year to accommodate the ex-president's son.
