The Criminal Policy Law 2026-2028 enters into force today, September 1, as established by the diploma published at the end of July. This law brings new measures related to the prison system and police powers.
The legislation provides that inmates may carry out forest cleaning work, thus integrating a public utility measure within criminal policy. This provision aims to combine social reintegration objectives with the need for maintenance of natural spaces.
The law also establishes that police may proceed with the search of people in areas with socially impactful criminality. This measure aims to strengthen police action in areas identified as priorities in terms of public security.
The diploma was published in the Official Gazette at the end of July, with its entry into force set for September 1, covering the period between 2026 and 2028.
