Drivers paid 37.7 million euros in EMEL fines over the last six years

Drivers paid a total of 37.7 million euros in EMEL (Empresa Municipal de Estacionamento de Lisboa) fines over the last six years. This amount represents the sum of all fines collected by the company responsible for managing parking in the Portuguese capital during this period.

The amount collected reached a record of 9.1 million euros in 2023, but registered a decline in the following two years. This reduction suggests a possible change in violation patterns or in the effectiveness of parking enforcement systems in the city.

Between 2020 and 2024, more than 1.13 million violation notices were issued. This high number of notices reflects the intensity of EMEL's parking enforcement in Lisbon, resulting in significant revenue for the municipality.

Financial House bets on unique ecosystem for credit, insurance and real estate

US oil reserves are at the lowest level since 1982

The United States' strategic petroleum reserves reached their lowest level since 1982 on August 31, at 289.7 million barrels, potentially dropping to 243 million if President Donald Trump releases another 39 million barrels. The White House revealed details of an agreement with Venezuela, described as the "largest oil agreement" in world history, granting the US majority control over 65 billion barrels of proven Venezuelan reserves. The agreement, signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, through the company North American Blue Energy Partners, guarantees the US a 35% stake in the parent company, rights to purchase 20% of production at cost of production to replenish the strategic reserve depleted by Joe Biden, and veto power over board appointments.
