A new TVDE (Passenger Transport in Dematerialized Vehicles) regime law entered into force today, integrating taxis into this legislation for the first time.
The main change introduced by the new law allows taxis to be "registered for TVDE activity", thus creating a common regime for both transport services.
This provision was the one that generated the most controversy throughout the legislative process, raising questions about competition between taxis and TVDE platforms.
With the entry into force of this law, the passenger transport sector in Portugal now has more unified rules, covering both vehicles dedicated to digital platforms and traditional taxis.
