The words of Pedro Sánchez about King Felipe VI on Monday, during an interview on Cadena SER — his first interview of the political season — provoked indignation and concern in the Spanish Popular Party. The party's leadership, gathered as usual on Mondays in the Direction Committee in Génova, expressed their displeasure just minutes before the press conference.
The national spokesperson for the populares, Borja Sémper, conveyed the sentiment of the party leadership during his intervention after the meeting. Sémper declared: "We refuse to convert the most relevant institutions into a reason for confrontation and partisan manipulation."
The formation led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo considered that Sánchez's statements represented an escalation in tone regarding the figure of the Head of State, generating concern both in the party and in circles close to the Spanish monarchy.
