Heads and tails of Castellón's almond: it produces more and of better quality, but suffers from soaring costs

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General1 September 2026 at 05:08

Bittersweet campaign for almond producers in Castellón. The most positive part comes with the confirmation of favorable expectations pointed out in the spring: after a crisis of several years, this time there will be a 30% increase in production, so 2,000 tons will again be exceeded across the province, according to the general secretary of La Unió Llauradora, Carles Peris.

However, the campaign also presents a negative side. Despite the increase in production and improvement in quality, producers face soaring costs that put the profitability of the activity at risk. This situation creates a scenario of uncertainty for the almond sector in the region.

Carles Peris, as a representative of farmers through his organization, highlights the complexity of this campaign. The growth in production and quality contrasts with the economic difficulties that producers currently face in the sector.
