The Senate should vote this Tuesday on the bill that establishes the incentive plan for the data center sector, known as Redata. The text was approved in the Chamber of Deputies in February and had been stalled among senators since then.
The project was unblocked after a meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Senate President, Davi Alcolumbre, from União Brasil of Amapá, last week.
Through Redata, companies in the sector may benefit from suspension and later reduction to zero rate of taxes such as IPI, PIS/Pasep, and Cofins on the acquisition and import of information technology and communication equipment destined for the installation or expansion of data centers. There will also be reduction of import duties when there is no equivalent national production.
The regime will be destined for companies that implement installation or expansion projects of data processing centers in Brazil, including infrastructure focused on cloud computing, high-performance processing, and artificial intelligence model training.
