The joint committee analyzing the provisional measure (MP) on the end of the "blusinhas tax" should vote on the text Tuesday morning. Initially scheduled for Monday, the voting meeting was moved to today. The committee chairman, Deputy Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG), stated that the additional time was needed to define the "final details" of the report.
There is resistance from the productive sector to the measure, but government lawmakers and congressional leadership assess that there is a path to approve the provisional measure. The inclusion of the MP on this week's voting agenda was the result of a political agreement involving congressional leadership and the Palácio do Planalto.
Maintaining the end of the 20% charge on international purchases of up to US$ 50 is one of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's electoral promises.
