The United Nations Organization appealed yesterday to leaders of the world's major economies to visit an atoll in the Pacific Ocean and witness firsthand the reality of record sea level rise. The appeal was made at the 55th Pacific Islands Forum, which is being held in Palau.
The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, mentioned the fatal floods that occurred in Nepal last Wednesday, stating that sea level rise in the Pacific is "the other side of that story." Mohammed emphasized that climate warming is already altering ice reserves around the world, contributing to this phenomenon.
