President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) filed a lawsuit at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) on Sunday requesting right of reply for statements made by political adversary Flavio Bolsonaro (PL). The interview in question was conducted by TV Globo, where the PL presidential candidate was interviewed.
According to Lula's coalition, the senator said "a series of lies" on various topics, including electronic voting machines, the Pix system, and the January 8, 2023 coup acts. Lula's campaign stated that the adversary broadcast "false and seriously decontextualized statements" about facts related to the electoral process and Lula's candidacy.
Lula's legal team contests eight specific statements by Flavio Bolsonaro. Among them is a declaration in which the Rio de Janeiro senator attributes to Lula the responsibility for the tariff hike imposed by the United States, claiming that the PT member would not have taken the appropriate diplomatic measures.
The episode occurs amid the electoral period, with the TSE having already authorized the deployment of federal forces to Rio de Janeiro to reinforce security for the first round of elections.
