Chega demands ISP cut after fuel price rise

Observador1 September 2026 at 00:27

The Chega party demanded the government reduce the Excise Duty on Petroleum Products (ISP) after the rise in fuel prices. The demand comes in response to the significant increase in prices recorded in the Azores during the month of September.

According to the article, the price of gasoline increased by 3.5 cents per liter and diesel rose by 16.3 cents per liter in the autonomous region of the Azores last September.

The government responded to the party's demand, stating that the tax burden applied to fuels is already at the minimum level permitted by law, thus suggesting there is no room for ISP reductions.

The executive's position indicates that any reduction in fuel prices would have to go through other mechanisms, since the excise duty on petroleum products has already reached its lowest level permitted by current legislation.
