The Secretary of the United States Army, Dan Driscoll, submitted his resignation to American President Donald Trump, the White House reported on Monday. The departure comes after months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to sources interviewed by CNN. The news was first published by the Wall Street Journal.

An Army official stated that Driscoll "conversed with the president about the current state of the Army and submitted his resignation." In a statement, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly praised the secretary's work and stated that he was "highly effective" in implementing Trump's agenda at the Department of the Army.

According to Kelly, Driscoll played a leadership role during "historic military operations," helped restore the focus on readiness and combat capability of the forces. The spokesperson did not specify which operations were carried out during his tenure.
