The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) authorized the deployment of federal forces to Rio de Janeiro to reinforce security during the first round of the 2026 elections, scheduled for October 4. The Fluminense capital is among the localities that will receive support from military Armed Forces to guarantee security and public order during voting.
The measure was approved unanimously by TSE ministers in an administrative session held last Thursday. In addition to Rio de Janeiro, the Court authorized the use of federal forces in municipalities in Acre, Ceará, Piauí, and Tocantins. Altogether, more than a hundred municipalities in the five states will be covered. Among the capitals that will receive reinforcements are Fortaleza, Teresina, and Rio Branco.
The requests were previously approved by the Regional Electoral Courts (TREs) and the respective state governments before being forwarded to the TSE. The use of federal forces is employed by the Electoral Justice in situations that require additional security reinforcement to guarantee the proper progress of the electoral process.
