Channel crossings by migrants in small boats have never been so few since 2019

The UK recorded this summer the lowest number of migrant crossings in small boats across the English Channel since 2019. The British government announced this significant reduction, welcoming what it considers to be a success of the cooperation agreement with France.

The total number of migrants who crossed the English Channel in June, July and August fell to the lowest level in seven years. These summer months are traditionally when there is an increase in crossings, since weather conditions are more favorable.

The British government attributed this decrease to the bilateral cooperation agreement with France, which has allowed greater surveillance and intervention on the French coasts to prevent boat departures. This partnership has been one of the UK government's priorities regarding immigration policy.
