Mário Bittencourt, former president and current general director of Fluminense, explained that the temporary confirmation of Marcão as the club's coach until the end of 2026 aims to protect him from a future dismissal. According to Mário, there is a contractual agreement with the former midfielder that guarantees the maintenance of his status as a permanent assistant throughout the term of president Mattheus Montenegro.
According to Mário, Marcão will act as coach in moments when the board understands it is necessary to make a change in technical command and that this change can achieve the same objectives that would be brought by hiring another coach. The director stated that, if Marcão were permanently confirmed as the professional coach, at some point he would have to be removed from the position, which would compromise his position at the club.
Mário revealed that this agreement was made since his arrival as president and that it is maintained by the current management of Mattheus Montenegro. The director also praised Marcão's work on the sidelines, recognizing his qualities as a professional.
