Pedro Santana Lopes publicly recalled Princess Diana's death, stating he is not at all ashamed to admit that he cried when he learned of the tragedy.
The former Portuguese prime minister also revealed that he had the opportunity to spend time with the princess during the official visit to Portugal in 1987, when Diana was accompanied by the then Prince Charles.
The encounter between Santana Lopes and the princess took place during a dinner held at the Bolsa Palace in Porto, as part of that official visit to the country.
