The legal team of Renan Santos (Missão) announced that it will file a writ of mandamus on Monday (31st) to try to reverse the decision by the minister of the Superior Electoral Court, Dias Toffoli, which suspended the candidate's participation in electoral debates and vetoed the use of electoral fund resources.
During a press conference, the campaign's lawyer, Arthur Rollo, stated that the decision violates articles of electoral law and is illegal. He highlighted that the Attorney General's Office for Electoral Matters issued three favorable opinions on the approval of the candidacy registration, and that the Electoral Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that all requirements are met and there are no ineligibility issues.
Rollo criticized the fact that, despite the favorable opinions from the Public Prosecutor's Office, there were three ex officio decisions that suspended the campaign, and defended that the measure taken goes against what was decided by the technical bodies of the Electoral Justice.
The writ of mandamus is the legal instrument chosen by the campaign to try to reverse the decisions, since, according to the lawyer, these decisions represent a procedural defect that can be corrected through this action.
