Flamengo positions itself against removal of resources from bets destined for sports

Flamengo expressed on Monday its opposition to an amendment included in PEC 18, the so-called Security PEC, which removes from sports part of the resources from taxes paid by sports betting companies (BETs). The club, which is sponsored by a betting company, states it is following with concern the alteration that modified the distribution of these resources during processing in the Chamber of Deputies. The change occurred at the final stage of the text voting.

Flamengo declares its support for strengthening public security, but advocates that this should not occur at the expense of sports funding. In the club's assessment, the resources destined for the sector since the regulation of sports betting are already part of the Brazilian sports ecosystem and are important for its maintenance and development. The club considers these funds essential for the operation of sports entities.

The Security PEC will still be analyzed by the Federal Senate. The text approved by the Chamber of Deputies redirects part of the resources that would be destined for sports to the public security area, which has generated criticism from clubs and sports entities that depend on these funds. Flamengo reinforces that it recognizes the importance of public security, but requests that resources for this purpose not be diverted from areas already committed to sports.
