The inspection of Lisbon's historic funiculars and elevators — namely the Bica and Lavra funiculars and the Santa Justa elevator — is still ongoing, according to information from Carris. These equipment have been closed for about a year.
The closure is due to the accident that occurred with the Glória elevator, another historic funicular in the city, which suffered a derailment. This incident led to the preventive suspension of all historic elevators in the capital.
Carris, the company responsible for public transport in Lisbon, confirmed that the inspection work is still ongoing, without indicating a predicted date for the conclusion or reopening of the equipment.
The Bica and Lavra funiculars and the Santa Justa elevator are considered historical heritage of the city, being important tourist attractions and means of transport used both by residents and tourists.
