Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the Chinese and Indian leaders on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. During these meetings, Putin sought to reinforce ties with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, strengthening the strategic partnership between Russia and China.
At the same time, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the opportunity to appeal for peace. India, which has maintained a more neutral position regarding the conflict in Ukraine, expressed the desire for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit thus served as the venue for these bilateral meetings, in a context where Russia seeks to maintain and deepen its relations with countries that have adopted a more equidistant stance regarding the conflict with Ukraine.
