Excess in appearances of political patrons and disregard for accessibility standards bring down TV insertions of candidates in MG

oglobo31 August 2026 at 21:00

The Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais (TRE-MG) decided to suspend a series of television insertions of candidates for state governor. The decision was made after the court identified irregularities in compliance with accessibility standards and in the excessive participation of political patrons in the audiovisual pieces.

The actions that led to the suspensions were filed by Gabriel Azevedo (MDB), former president of the Belo Horizonte City Council and also a candidate for governor of Minas Gerais. The politician filed complaints questioning the legality of insertions broadcast by other candidates.

Businessman Flávio Roscoe (PL-MG), supported by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), had three insertions questioned. One of them presented serious accessibility problems, being broadcast without a Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpreter window and without audio description. The other two insertions by the candidate were questioned because the accessibility features appeared in dimensions below the minimum standard set by electoral regulations.

In parallel, Senator Cleitinho Azevedo (Republicanos-MG) had one of his insertions suspended for not containing captions corresponding to the text presented. The TRE-MG decisions reinforce the mandatory compliance with accessibility rules in electoral propaganda broadcast on electronic media.
