Two athletes from the municipality of Alcobaça helped Portugal win two gold medals at the Mediterranean Games, which were held in the Italian city of Taranto.

Beatriz Castelhano from Benedita, who had previously finished sixth in the 100 meters, was part of the Portuguese women's 4x100 meters relay team that climbed to the highest step of the podium. The team, which also included Rosalina Santos, Catarina Lourenço and Arialis Martínez, completed the distance in 43.57 seconds, defeating Greece, which took silver with 43.61 seconds, and Turkey, which won bronze with 44.05 seconds.

Laura Rilhó, an Alcobaça-born defender for Benfica, contributed to the under-18 National Team defeating their Italian counterparts 4-0 and securing the gold medal. The athlete played the entire match in the defensive line and took part in the fifth match of the competition.

After a group stage in which they accumulated eight points in four matches, the Portuguese team qualified for the final, where they defeated the host nation. Rita Oliveira scored twice in the decisive match, while Matilde Matos and Raquel Vitorino scored the remaining goals for the Portuguese side.
