Centro Cultural Correios, located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, had its entire exhibition schedule until December at risk of cancellation due to financial restructuring at the state-owned Correios company. In June, the institution had communicated the suspension of the calendar to artists, curators, and production teams, justifying that the moment required internal readjustment.
Following the repercussion of the crisis, the cultural center informed that the exhibitions that were already in production are maintained, at least regarding the programming planned for this year. The decision ensures that already assumed commitments will be fulfilled.
Part of the teams involved had practically all the organization ready to open the exhibitions since the beginning of the year. Many of these productions were intended to be on display during the ArtRio period, which occurs between September 16 and 20, when the state capital receives a large influx of people from the art circuit.
The fear in the cultural sector is that the space may lose relevance or even close its doors, given the financial crisis faced by Correios, the state-owned company responsible for the cultural center.
