Over 60% of the US S&P 500 index is associated with artificial intelligence. According to a study by financial analysis platform BestBrokers, 218 companies that are part of the index have a direct connection to the AI economy, representing an absolute majority of the companies that make up the main US stock market indicator.
The study shows that the connection to AI spans a surprising variety of sectors. Among the identified companies are chip manufacturers such as Nvidia and AMD, as well as electricity providers that power the data centers needed to sustain AI infrastructure.
These 218 companies have become the true engine of the S&P 500, driving the index's performance significantly. The growing weight of the AI sector reflects the technological transformation that has dominated the US stock market in recent years.
This phenomenon leaves increasingly less room for other areas of activity within the index. Traditional sectors, which previously had significant representation in the S&P 500, see their influence diminish as companies linked to artificial intelligence consolidate their dominant position in the main benchmark of the US stock exchange.
