France launched this Monday a new voluntary military service, called "National Service", which succeeds the previous Universal National Service (SNU), which failed. This new program replaces the previous one and aims to involve young people on a voluntary basis.
The new service is expected to welcome around 3000 young people in its initial launch phase. It is a voluntary program that contrasts with the approaches of other European countries.
The context for this initiative comes at a time when some European countries are bringing back mandatory military service, suggesting a broader trend in Europe regarding defense and civic participation among young people.
