Karim Benzema terminated his contract with Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia after only six months with the club. The French forward arrived at Al Hilal in June 2023 and decided to end his experience in Arab football before the contract's end, which was planned to remain in effect until 2025.
Benzema's decision comes at a time when Al Hilal is going through a phase of major investments in football, having signed several international stars in recent years. The Saudi club has been heavily betting on top European players to strengthen their squad and compete for the main titles.
Benzema, who was Ballon d'Or winner in 2022, leaves Al Hilal after a short but eventful stay marked by some controversy. During his time there, the 36-year-old player accumulated several incidents that contributed to his early departure from the club.
With this termination, Benzema is free to sign for another club, being able to return to European football or seek a new challenge in another league. His professional future will now be one of the open questions in the transfer market.
