Algarve with four projects among the 71 supported by DGArtes

The Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes) will support 71 artistic projects across the country through the 2025 Programming Projects Support call for applications, with a total allocation of approximately 1.885 million euros. Among the supported projects, four are from the Algarve. The call received 216 applications, of which 145 remained without funding, with 110 being excluded because the total available amount had been exhausted. Of the 71 supported projects, the majority are music (47), followed by theatre (12), dance (6), street arts (4) and circus (2). Geographically, the Centre leads with 21 projects, followed by the North (17), Greater Lisbon (14), West and Tagus Valley (5), Algarve (4), Alentejo (3), Azores (3), Setúbal Peninsula (2) and Madeira (2). The supported projects include initiatives such as Festival A Porta in Leiria, Festival Semibreve in Braga, Festival Quebrajazz in Coimbra and Festival Clarão in Sintra, and run until 28 February 2028, covering activities such as residencies, co-productions, artistic residencies, national circulation, creation, internationalisation, training and publishing. Representative organisations in the Culture sector have warned about delays in opening DGArtes calls for applications and their underfunding. This call is part of the 2025 Projects Support Programme, which has a total allocation of 13.35 million euros, the same value as in 2023 and 2024, with the submission deadline having been extended until 02 April due to bad weather that affected the sector, especially in the Centre region.
