Portuguese Social Security recorded a surplus of 4,415.8 million euros by July, a figure higher than the 3,214.9 million euros documented in the same period of the previous year. This result represents a significant improvement in the financial situation of the Social Security system.
The budget execution summary, published by the Budgetary Entity (formerly the General Directorate for Budget), revealed that Social Security's effective revenue reached 27,632.6 million euros, growth compared to the 25,459.7 million euros recorded in the same period last year. On the other hand, effective expenditure stood at 23,216.8 million euros, compared to 22,244.8 million euros in the previous period.
Between January and July, the items that grew the most were the supplementary extraordinary support for children and young people, with an increase of 40.5%, the social inclusion benefit supplement, with 39.8%, and the informal caregiver support subsidy, with 21.1%.
Conversely, decreases were recorded in the extraordinary pension update component, with a drop of 33%, in current subsidies associated with Operational Programmes, with a decline of 9.5%, and in vocational training actions supported by the European Social Fund, which decreased by 9.3%.
