Associação 289, in Faro, inaugurated on September 5 the exhibition "Look, it's me and my mother", by artist Alice Geirinhas. The show will be on display until October 31, with free entry, and can be visited on Thursdays and Fridays, between 3pm and 7pm, and on Saturdays, from 10am to 2pm.
The exhibition brings together illustrations, collages and prints through which the artist addresses issues related to gender, identity, sexuality and power. Alice Geirinhas' work questions ideas and prejudices associated with gender issues, proposing a reflection on personal and collective memories and on the narratives built around these matters.
Alice Geirinhas has been developing her work on these themes for several decades, using different media such as drawing, illustration, performance, video and installation. Her exhibition career began in the 1980s and is represented in several public and private collections, including those of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the National Museum of Contemporary Art.
Associação 289 is a non-profit cultural entity dedicated to promoting visual arts and other artistic manifestations in the Algarve region, located at Rua Dr. Mariana Amélia Machado Santos, No. 1, in Faro.
