Husband uses robot vacuum to catch wife's affair, wins compensation, but ends up sentenced to prison

A court dispute in Taiwan ended with opposite outcomes for a man who tried to prove his own wife's infidelity. Initially, he obtained compensation of approximately R$100,000 for moral damages, using images captured by a robot vacuum cleaner as evidence. However, the evidence collection strategy was considered illegal, leading the wife to sue him for privacy invasion. As a result, the man was sentenced to five months in prison and ordered to pay a fine.

The conflict began in 2023, during a couple's vacation, when the husband found a suspicious toothbrush in the bathroom. Suspicion increased after he checked security cameras from a parking lot and identified a man who had given his wife a ride. Motivated by these suspicions, the man began using the household robot vacuum app to monitor his wife's movements and confirm his suspicions.

The approach proved initially effective in gathering evidence of the alleged affair, resulting in partial legal victory. However, the court considered that the method used to obtain the images violated the wife's privacy, which completely transformed the outcome of the case. The privacy invasion conviction exceeded the previous compensation, leaving the man in an unfavorable legal and financial situation.
