San Marzano tomato producers forced to harvest at dawn due to extreme heat

SIC Notícias31 August 2026 at 15:05

The intense heat is forcing Italian farmers to significantly change the way they cultivate and harvest some agricultural products. Extreme temperatures have forced changes in traditional production methods throughout the country. The famous San Marzano tomato, a typical variety from southern Italy, is among the products most affected by this situation. To prevent the tomatoes from spoiling in the heat, producers are collecting the harvest during the night and at dawn, instead of during the day as was customary. This adaptation allows preserving the quality of the product, but represents an additional challenge for farmers who have to work at unusual hours.

Trump says he does not rule out 'reviewing' US position on Falklands

United States President Donald Trump said on Monday (31st) that he does not rule out "reviewing" the American position on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, an archipelago claimed by Argentina but currently administered by the United Kingdom. Trump said he "always reviews every position" when questioned by journalists at the White House. According to the British newspaper Daily Telegraph, Washington would be willing to change this stance to pressure the United Kingdom into increasing its military spending. Traditionally, the United States recognizes British administration of the archipelago but does not take a position on sovereignty, a position contested by Argentina.
