JPP criticizes "unacceptable" delay of second aerial firefighting resource

Funchal Notícias31 August 2026 at 14:58

The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), through its deputy Paulo Alves, harshly criticized what it considers an "unacceptable" delay on the part of the Regional Government in providing the second aerial firefighting resource. Paulo Alves publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation.

According to the parliamentarian's intervention, the regional executive has been promising and successively postponing the operationalization of this second aerial firefighting resource. The initial timeline pointed to 2025, then was postponed to July 2026, and now the forecast indicated by the Government points to November.

The JPP considers this succession of postponements unacceptable, demonstrating a lack of effective commitment to the protection of populations and territories against the risk of wildfires. The party warns of the dangers of this situation during the fire season.
