288-meter elevator transforms students' commute into 'aerial school bus' in China; see how

A new 288-meter elevator installed on the wall of a cliff reduced from more than three hours to about 30 minutes the journey of students who live at the bottom of the Nizhuhe Grand Canyon, in Xuanwei, in the Chinese province of Yunnan. Named "Fuyao", the equipment officially went into operation and now works in conjunction with another elevator and a section of suspended cable car, forming the so-called "aerial school bus". The system connects Nizhuhe village to Guan Zhai Primary School, located at the top of the cliff. Between the two points there is an altitude difference of more than 500 meters.

Before the construction of the structure, students needed to face steep, slippery trails full of uneven terrain. In some sections, the path was so narrow that it would be difficult to place even half a foot. The climb to school took more than three hours. The Fuyao elevator rises at a speed of 5 meters per second and joined Qingyun, another existing elevator, in addition to the suspended cable car, completing the transportation system.
