A very unusual incident stopped traffic on Highway 57, in Los Angeles County, California, United States, last Friday. The California Highway Patrol had to intervene after a school of 31 live catfish appeared crossing several lanes of the road, near the city of Pomona.
As soon as they arrived at the scene, CHP (California Highway Patrol) agents carried out a rescue operation to remove the animals from the road and take them to the right shoulder. With the support of animal control, it was possible to save and relocate 29 of the 31 fish. Two catfish did not survive and died during the incident.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, the agency did not hold back on good humor. On social media, the CHP office in Baldwin Park joked about the situation using the pun "Fish & CHiPs," highlighting the agency's initials in reference to a typical UK dish.
To ensure everyone's safety, the Highway Patrol left an important alert for drivers: if something unusual is spotted on the road, it is necessary to slow down and report it to the authorities.
