Algarve accounts for more than one third of tourism revenue in July

In the first seven months of 2025, stays in the Portuguese tourist accommodation sector increased 1.5%, totaling 46.5 million, while total revenue grew 5.3% to 4,073.2 million euros. In July, the sector registered 3.4 million guests and 9.6 million stays, with growth of 2.1% compared to the same period last year. Total revenue in July reached 923.7 million euros, an increase of 4.9% compared to the same month last year.

The Algarve stood out as the region with the highest concentration of revenue, representing 35.0% of the national total and 35.1% of room revenue in July. Greater Lisbon came in second place with 21.2% and 21.9%, respectively, followed by the North with 14.1% and 14.2%. All regions showed increases in revenue, except Greater Lisbon, which recorded a 2.0% decline in total revenue. The highest growth was observed in Alentejo and the Setúbal Peninsula.

The United Kingdom remained the main emitting market, with a share of 18.4% and growth of 3.0%. Spain was the second largest market with 10.8% of the total, followed by Germany with 9.3%. Among the main markets, Poland showed the highest growth with 10.8%, while the French market recorded the largest decline with -5.9%. The North American market decreased 3.1% in July, the second decline since the pandemic, although in cumulative terms for the first seven months it still accumulates growth of 3.4%.

In terms of stays by region, the Algarve concentrated 30.8% of the total, followed by Greater Lisbon with 20.2% and the North with 17.4%. The largest increases in the number of stays occurred in Alentejo and the North, while the Azores and Madeira showed the largest decreases. The average revenue per available room was set at 104.3 euros and the average length of stay was 2.83 nights, the first increase after three consecutive monthly declines.
