Nepal's rescue teams are carrying out controlled detonations on slopes near the Trishuli-3A hydroelectric plant, in Rasuwa district, where they believe 933 people have been trapped in tunnels since the flood hit the country last week. The death toll in Nepal has risen to 919, with 4.79 thousand people missing in total.
The rescue work in the tunnels is extremely complex and relies on support from specialized professionals from China, South Korea and India, in addition to Nepali police and military. One team managed to open an entrance wide enough to begin the search for survivors in the plant's tunnels.
The window of time to find survivors is shrinking every day, while the expectation of rains in Tibet increases the risk of rising river levels, which could further hinder rescue operations and increase damage.
