The European Commission announced that ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox will have to comply with European Union rules for digital services, under the Digital Services regulation. The decision places these platforms under more rigorous scrutiny regarding how they manage their services and content.
The three services will be evaluated on various fundamental criteria. Among them, the dissemination of illegal content, negative effects on minors, the physical and mental well-being of users, respect for fundamental rights, interference in electoral processes and public security stand out.
This classification occurs within the framework of the Digital Services Act, the European legislation that aims to regulate large digital platforms and ensure greater transparency and protection for users. The companies will now have to demonstrate that they comply with the standards required by the EU.
