Overnight stays in the tourist accommodation sector in Portugal increased 1.5% to 46.5 million through July, with total revenue rising 5.3% to 4,073.2 million euros, according to data from the National Statistics Institute. In the month of July alone, the sector registered 3.4 million guests and 9.6 million overnight stays, with total revenue of 923.7 million euros.
Alentejo stood out as the region with the highest growth, registering a 19.8% increase in total revenue and 19.7% in room revenue, followed by the Setúbal Peninsula with 10.9%. All regions showed increases in revenue, with the exception of Greater Lisbon, where total revenue fell 2.0%. The Algarve concentrated 35.0% of total revenue, followed by Greater Lisbon with 21.2% and the North with 14.1%.
The main emitting markets were the United Kingdom, with a market share of 18.4% and growth of 3.0%, Spain with 10.8%, and the German market with 9.3%. The North American market registered a decrease of 3.1% in overnight stays in July, the second decline since the pandemic, after the growth of 2.9% and 6.1% observed in June and May, respectively.
In July, the average revenue per available room stood at 104.3 euros and the average revenue per occupied room reached 154.9 euros. The average length of stay in tourist accommodation establishments was 2.83 nights, the first increase after three consecutive monthly declines.
