Rio de Janeiro gains a new address dedicated to samba this Saturday, September 5th. Quintal da Clementina will be inaugurated on bustling Rua do Senado, in the city's Centro, with a special programming that celebrates the music, culture, and memory of Carioca samba. The opening event will start at noon and extend until two in the morning.

The venue was conceived to pay tribute to all the women who helped build the history of samba, including Tia Ciata, Tia Surica, Alcione, Dona Ivone Lara, Clementina de Jesus, Jovelina Pérola Negra, Leci Brandão, Beth Carvalho and Teresa Cristina. The establishment's name is a reference to Clementina de Jesus, an important Brazilian sambista.

The opening programming will feature three major attractions. Choro na Rua, led by Silvério Pontes, Banda Clementina, formed by Carlinhos 7 Cordas, Hudson Santos, Marcio Vanderlei and Rodrigo Reveles, with special appearances by Marina Íris, Marquinho Sathan and Nego Álvaro, as well as the traditional Galocantô samba circle.

For the opening event, complimentary passes for free entry until 2pm can be obtained through Sympla, the ticketing platform.
