Italy extended the partial suspension of the Schengen agreement with Spain, according to the decision that was initially taken on July 31. This measure allows temporary controls at the borders between the two countries.
The initial decision was made after the mass entry of migrants in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave in North Africa. The migratory situation in the region was the main factor for the implementation of these restrictions.
The suspension of the Schengen agreement implies that controls at the land borders between Italy and Spain can be carried out more strictly, affecting the free movement of people that is normally guaranteed by the European treaty.
